Apple fritters are a warm, cozy dessert made from fresh apples folded into a light batter, then fried until golden brown. They’re crisp on the outside, soft inside, and often dusted with powdered sugar or drizzled with a vanilla glaze. A comforting treat that’s great for breakfast, snacks, or as a sweet bite after dinner.
Ingredients
- 2 apples, peeled and diced (sweet varieties like Fuji or Golden work best)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- A pinch of salt
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- Oil for frying
Optional toppings:
- Powdered sugar
- Simple glaze (powdered sugar + a splash of milk + a drop of vanilla)

Instructions
1. Make the batter
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the egg with milk and melted butter. Combine wet and dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
2. Add apples
Gently fold in the chopped apples until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
3. Fry the fritters
Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil. Fry for 2–3 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through.
4. Serve
Transfer fritters to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with glaze and serve warm.
Tips
- Use green apples for a tangier bite.
- Add nutmeg or lemon zest for extra flavor.
- These can also be baked in a muffin tin at 180°C (350°F) for a healthier version.
