This is a fun and delicious dessert that combines the warm, spiced filling of classic apple pie with the crispy texture of egg rolls. It’s a quick and creative way to serve an American favorite with a twist. These treats are perfect for parties, cozy evenings, or a sweet snack anytime.

Serve them warm with powdered sugar, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce for a restaurant-style dessert at home.

Ingredients:

For the apple filling:

  • 3 medium apples (Granny Smith or Red Delicious), peeled and finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for extra flavor)

For assembly:

  • 8–10 egg roll wrappers
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or sunflower oil)

Optional for serving:

  • Powdered sugar
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Caramel or chocolate sauce

Instructions:

  1. Make the filling:
    • In a skillet, add apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, cornstarch, and butter if using.
    • Cook over medium heat for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples soften and the mixture thickens.
    • Let it cool slightly before using.
  2. Assemble the rolls:
    • Place an egg roll wrapper in a diamond shape.
    • Add 1–2 tablespoons of filling to the center.
    • Fold the bottom up, then fold in the sides, and roll tightly.
    • Seal the edge with a bit of water.
  3. Fry:
    • Heat oil to 175–180°C (350°F).
    • Fry rolls for 2–3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
    • Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. Serve:
    • Dust with powdered sugar.
    • Serve with vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce if desired.

Tips:

  • No egg roll wrappers? Use thin pastry sheets cut to size.
  • Healthier option: Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 15–18 minutes instead of frying.
  • Add crunch: Mix in some chopped walnuts or almonds to the filling.
  • Other fruit options: Try pears, peaches, or berries.

Storage:

  • Fridge: Store in an airtight container up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven to keep them crispy.
  • Freezer: Freeze un-fried rolls and fry directly from frozen.
